Hey, tea lovers and chill-out champions! It's April 21st, and you know what that means: it's Tea Day! For me, tea isn't just a drink; it's a whole mood—a feeling of calm energy.
Today, we’re baking that feeling right into a scone with my recipe for Matcha & White Chocolate "Zen" Scones.
This is the ultimate spring treat. We’re harnessing the calm energy of ceremonial tea in a bake. The matcha powder gives the scones a beautiful, calming green color and a subtle, earthy flavor that pairs perfectly with the sweet white chocolate chips. They are light, fluffy, and the best way to pause your day and just breathe. You'll feel so zen, you'll forget all your worries.
Let’s get this gorgeous, calming bake made!
The "Zen" Scone Recipe
The secret to a light, flaky scone is cold butter and not overmixing the dough.
What You Need (The Goods):
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tablespoon Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder
-
1/2 cup sugar
-
2 teaspoons baking powder
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
-
1/2 cup (1 stick) cold Unsalted Butter Sticks, cut into small cubes
-
1 large egg
-
1/2 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half)
-
1/2 cup white chocolate chips
-
For Finish: A simple glaze of powdered sugar and a splash of milk
The Simple Steps:
-
Mix the Dry Stuff: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, matcha, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
-
Cut in the Butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the dry mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture looks like coarse, pea-sized crumbs. Pro Tip: Keep the butter cold! Cold butter = flaky scones.
-
Add the Wet Stuff & Chips: Gently stir in the egg and heavy cream until the dough just comes together. Then, fold in the white chocolate chips. DO NOT OVERMIX. A little shagginess is good.
-
Shape & Bake: Dump the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a large circle (about 8 inches across and 1 inch thick). Use a sharp knife to cut the circle into 8 wedges, like a pizza. Place the wedges on your baking sheet.
-
Bake to Fluff: Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the scones are well-risen and the bottom edges are light golden brown.
-
Glaze & Zen: Let them cool slightly. Mix your simple glaze and drizzle it over the warm scones. Serve immediately with a hot cup of tea. Namaste, you just baked a cloud!
